Metal
Mild Steel
Mild steel is also known as “low carbon steel” which means that it is typically more ductile, machinable, and weldable than high carbon and other steels. It is the affordability, weldability, and machinability that make this such a popular choice of steel for consumers. Within a hot or arid environment, our outdoor furniture must be designed for increased lifetime value, its a sustainable material with maximum strength. Our steel plates and pipe structures have a material thinness of 3 -16 mm, and steel sheets vary from 0.8mm to 3mm – MS , GI and SS specs.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is not rust-free; it is as described stainless and the two main types of stainless steel that we use are grades 304 and 316. Grade 304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel, whereas grade 316 contains 16% chromium and 10 % nickel with the addition of 2% molybdenum and therefore better suited to coastal areas than 304. There are several benefits why Bluestream recomends using Stainless Steel. Its corrosion resistant, its fire and heat resistance, it's also impact resistant, and a great material when it comes to hygiene, not to mention it’s sustainability, long term value and aesthetic appearance.
Aluminium
Aluminium is the world’s most abundant metal and is the third most common element comprising 8% of the earth’s crust. The versatility of aluminium makes it the most widely used metal after steel. Aluminium, is an extremely versatile metal with a number of advantages, with it being lightweight and flexible, corrosion resistant. Aluminium can be used with electrical and thermal conductivity, its odourless and recyclable too.
Galvanized Steel
Galvanized steel is galvanized by the application of a zinc coating throughout its body so that it can be protected from corroding or rusting. Galvanized steel is popular because it has a longer life and durability compared to non-galvanized steel and an extended durability. Galvanized steel, has many advantages with it being lower in first cost than many other commonly known steels. Galvanized as a long life, and it's very reliable offering a low maintenance aspect to many urban developments.
Corten Steel
Corten steel is often referred to as Cor–Ten and broken down into two key elements. Cor refers to the corrosion resistance and Ten is for the Tensile strength. The surface “rusts” whilst maintaining its structural integrity which in turn creates protective barrier and prevents further rusting while giving a natural aged effect to any product it is used in (seating, Sculpture etc). Corten Steel has many benefits including maintenance and longevity. It's a special material formulated to develop a protective layer of rust that prevents deeper portions of the steel from succumbing to corrosion. The benefits of this are obvious, and that’s why Bluestream uses this in many communities across the globe.
Wood
Iroko
Iroko is a medium-heavy, medium-hard exotic wood with a yellow-brown to dark brown colour. Its strength and durability make it suitable for a range of heavy out door products such as framework and outdoor furniture. Iroko is simply amazing and very sustainable. Iroko is a common tree in intertropical Africa, it's a very durable wood, which does not require any preservative treatment. It therefore offers economic and ecological advantages that make it an ideal material for outdoor use, in an ever changing urban environment.
Red Meranti
Meranti is a hardwood of soft to medium density which as the name suggests is reddish in colour. This is a popular choice for a range of interior projects as it is readily available and modestly priced. At Bluestream we work with Meranti as its open structure means surfaces should be sanded before finishing. It is really used for a wide variety of internal decorative applications and window frames. It's very easy to work with and has good nailing, screwing and gluing properties making it very versatile and sustainable.
Coconut Palm Wood
As the world’s most sustainable and readily available wood sources, coconut wood is one of the most sustainable ways to produce high, quality durable street furniture. Known for it durable and robust compositions, coconut wood is an obvious choice for sustainable projects. And is heavily preferred and used in our products. Coconut palm wood is a traditional green material that is considered strong, lightweight, and environmentally friendly. The adoption of coconut palm wood is building construction can reduce greenhouse gas and emissions and slow down the rapid climatic change, hence why we believe this is a great material to use within some unban planned communities.
Bamboo wood
Bamboo is a relatively new type of wood source but has quickly established itself as a sustainable material as the bamboo stems grow quickly and produce and store a lot of CO2 during growth. It is a very strong composition making it excellent for both interior and exterior projects. Coconut timber has many applications as both a structural and interior design material. The harder, high-density timber is suitable for general structural purposes such as pillars, trusses, rafting, furniture, window and door frames, floors, decking and floor joists.
WPC
WPC is a wood plastic composite (WPC) immaterial created from a unique blend of natural wood and plastic fibbers. Sawdust, pulp, bamboo, peanut hulls and unused woodworking materials, like bark are combined with plastic powder to form WPC. Its environmentally friendly approach of using waste wood and recycled plastic material makes this material ideal for sustainable projects. WPC decking is very durable, due to its plastic containment, it’s very low maintenance, sustainable, and very cost affective
HPL
HPL
HPL is about the most durable laminate available and it is bonded using high pressure presses. It is used in both horizontal applications such as counter tops and higher quality table tops and vertical surfaces such as doors and drawer fronts of cabinets. Compared to solid surfaces, the advantages of HPL is superior wear resistance, HPL is durable, its impact, scratch, and abrasion-resistant. Even low heat conduction, it doesn’t become too hot or cold even when the surrounding temperature changes making it very sustainable.
Stone
Granite
Granite is not only durable but also an attractive natural stone that is long lasting and style conscious. It is available in a range of colours and finishes and is an ideal choice for high quality, outdoor street furniture and waste solutions, complementing high end projects and developments. Granite is very much a sustainable material with upto 50 years in warranty, and cost effective, durable, strong and easy to clean.
GRP
The Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) used in our street furniture is strong, light and versatile. Our GRP comes in three types of finishes: metal-infused, Metal Matched Paints (MMP) and solid colour resin. GRP has a high tensile strength, low weight, corrosion resistant, non-conductive properties, radar transparent and electromagnetically neutral, combine to deliver a highly cost effective, durable and sustainable product.
